To Care and Assist

A nanny, childminder, child care provider, or mother’s helper is an individual who provides care for one or more children in a family as a service. Basically, nannies were servants in large households and reported directly to the lady of the house. Today, modern nannies, like other domestic workers, may live in or out of the house, depending on their circumstances and those of their employers.

  1. Live-in nanny. A live-in nanny is less common today than in the past. Usually, a live-in nanny is responsible for the entire care of the children of their employer. This involves anything from washing the children’s clothes and cleaning the children’s rooms, to assisting homework, and preparing children’s meals, as well as taking children to and from school and activities.
  2. Shared nanny. There are families who employ what is referred to as a “nanny share” where two or more families pay for one nanny to take care for the children in each family on a part-time basis.
  3. Night nanny. A night nanny often works with children from newborn to five years of age. A night nanny can have a teaching role, helping parents to organize good sleeping patterns, or resolving the sleeping patterns of a child. The Night Nanny works together with the family’s requirements and principles.

Regardless of the different nanny types, the main focus is to take care children and assist them on their needs.
